In the first half of 2026, HSOS Industrial Services supported several large-scale power plant outages in Germany. The scope of work ranged from conventional mechanical operations to precision CNC machining — all performed directly on-site, eliminating the need to remove components for off-site workshop repair.
Scope of Services
The technologies and methods applied were matched to the specific requirements of each component:
- Pipe cutting and bevelling: Precise cutting of pipework and bevelling of cut ends to welding specifications, ensuring correct weld preparation geometry.
- Flange facing: Machine-facing of flange sealing surfaces to restore the required surface finish and flatness — a standard operation during outages on older plant components.
- Conical boring by CNC: Production of accurate conical bores using our mobile CNC equipment. A specific example from this outage: a bore of 130 mm diameter machined into an existing pipe — dimensionally accurate and fully repeatable to drawing.
- Demagnetisation: Welding and grinding operations can leave components with residual magnetism, which interferes with subsequent processes — particularly TIG welding. HSOS carried out targeted demagnetisation of affected parts.
- External calibration: Calibration of pipe outside diameters to ensure dimensional conformance for mating parts and seals.

Deploying mobile machining equipment directly within the plant significantly reduces outage duration. Components do not need to be removed and transported to an external workshop — all work is completed in situ, within the outage schedule. This reduces rigging costs, eliminates transport risk, and shortens the critical path.
